Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating a workplace accident at the Brand Packing Group Inc. plant on Price Parkway that left a woman’s arm amputated.

The accident occurred this past Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM when 37-year old Beatriz Blas of Wyandanch was working at a packing machine.  A coworker responded to screams from Blas to find her caught in the machine.  Fortunately, the coworker was able to free Blas from the machine and grab her severed arm.

Emergency care workers airlifted Blas to Nassau University Medical Center for immediate treatment.  Blas was later transferred to the Stony Brook University Medical Center where doctors are trying to reattach her arm.
